the mauveHAUS privacy policy
The whole point of running our own services is to get out from under the companies that treat you as the product. So the guiding rule here is simple: keep as little of your data as possible, and never sell or share what little there is.
what we collect
As little as each service needs to actually work, and nothing beyond that. Depending on which app you use, that can include:
- the account details you give us - a username, an email if the service needs one for signup or password resets, and whatever you choose to put in your profile
- the content you post, upload, or share, because storing it is the service
- the bare technical logs a server produces to stay up and stay secure
There are no analytics trackers, no advertising pixels, no third-party data brokers, no "anonymized" data sales. None of that pays the bills here because there are no bills to pay that way.
why we keep it
Only to run the services, keep them secure, and let them federate when that's the point of the app. That's it. Your data is never sold, rented, or handed to advertisers, and it's never shared except where you've explicitly made something public or where federation carries it to another server on purpose.
federation
A lot of these services speak to the wider fediverse. When you post something publicly on a federated app, copies of it travel to other servers so people elsewhere can see and interact with it. Those servers aren't mine and I can't reach into them. Anything you publish publicly should be treated as genuinely public and hard to fully claw back once it's out.
logs and retention
Server logs are kept only as long as they're useful for keeping things running and secure, then they age out. Backups exist so a disk failure doesn't erase the community, and deleted data can linger in a backup for a short while before those rotate out too.
your right to delete
Your data is yours, and you can take it back. You can:
- edit or delete your own posts and content from within the services, whenever you want
- ask for your whole account and its data to be deleted - reach the admin at admin@mauve.haus and it'll be handled
- ask what's stored about you and get a straight answer
One honest limit: for anything that has already federated out, deletion requests are sent to the other servers too, but whether they honor them is up to them. I'll delete my copies; I can't force theirs.
who can see your data
The admin can technically access what's stored, because someone has to keep the lights on. That access is used to run and repair the services, not to snoop. Your data isn't shared with anyone else unless the law genuinely forces it, and even then I'd rather tell you than not.
changes
If this policy changes, the change will show up here. The direction of travel will always be toward keeping less of your data, not more.
